Microsoft Worldwide Mentor School 2011
We are very excited to announce that in October 2010, Dallas Brooks Community Primary School (formerly Dallas Primary School and Kindergarten), was awarded ‘Mentor School’ status in Microsoft’s Worldwide Innovative Schools Program. This is the highest level of achievement.
Dallas Brooks Community Primary School is one of only 26 schools across the world to achieve this level of recognition. Mentor Schools are appointed in recognition of the creative and highly innovative ways in which technology is used to engage students and the school community in education through creating, researching, publishing and sharing of knowledge.
Achieving the Mentor School level means that during 2011 our teachers will be able to continue to work with and learn from some of the most highly regarded educators from around the world. For our students this will mean that they will have more opportunities to participate in global collaborative projects such as the DeforestACTION project.
Dallas Brooks Community Primary School will work in partnership with schools from:
• Australia (Queensland and West Australia)
• New Zealand
• India
• Singapore
• Taiwan
• Vietnam
• Philippines
Microsoft Worldwide Innovative Forum 2010
During the week October 25th – 29th Mrs Karaitiana and Ms Henning attended the Microsoft Worldwide Innovative Forum in Cape Town, South Africa. They met with principals and teachers from our partner schools to begin planning some of the learning projects that our students and teachers will undertake during 2011.
During the conference, Mrs Karaitiana and Miss Henning were both asked to speak to educators from across the world about the amazing work our students have completed as part of the DeforestACTION project. Our students are receiving worldwide recognition for their achievements on this project.
A highlight of the conference for Mrs Karaitiana and Ms Henning was when they met Mandeep Atwal. Mandeep is a teacher from England who has worked extensively with our students on the DeforestACTION project via video conferencing.
Ms Henning was also able to meet with Mr Huseyin Kosarac and Mr Onur Ağadangil, two educators from Turkey with whom she worked during a Study Tour of Turkey in March 2010.
